Former Channel Seven star Andrew O’Keefe has pushed back at assault charges that have landed him in court, arguing he was not the “aggressor” in an incident that has landed him in court.

O’Keefe has been charged with the common assault of partner Orly Lavee, which allegedly took place in the early hours of Sunday morning at a Randwick property.

While he was not in court, his lawyer was at Waverley Local Court for the first time today.

“We’ve sought a short adjournment in circumstances where Mr O’Keefe has been unable to give instructions on such short notice,” Claudette Chua said.

“I have had an opportunity to review the facts of matter and I will say this.

“Mr O’Keefe was certainly not the aggressor in this situation and Dr Lavee will have a lot to answer for.”

Channel Seven released a statement to say The Chase host left the network before he was charged.

“Seven has had a 17-year relationship with Andrew across a number of programs, although he is no longer with the network.

“As this is a police matter before the courts, we cannot comment further.”

His case will return to court on February 18.
