When he was a child, Einstein crafted one of the most difficult riddles ever made – so difficult, in fact, that he said 98 per cent of the world couldn’t solve it. However, a few NIEHS scientists managed to crack it, and you can too if you stay calm and pay attention. You’ll need a pen, some paper and all the patience and logic you can muster to solve this tricky puzzle.
All you need to know before you begin is the following. There are five different houses of five different colours. A person of a different nationality lives in each house. Each homeowner drinks a certain drink, smokes a certain cigarette brand, and has a certain pet – but none have any of these attributes in common.
Now, your job is to figure out – who has the fish?
- The Brit lives in the red house.
- The Swede has a dog.
- The Dane drinks tea.
- The green house is on the immediate left of the white house.
- The green house's owner drinks coffee.
- The owner who smokes Pall Mall owns a bird.
- The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill.
- The owner of the centre house drinks milk.
- The Norwegian lives in the first house.
- The owner who smokes Blends lives next to the one who owns a cat.
- The owner who has the horse lives next to the one who smokes Dunhill.
- The owner who smokes Bluemasters drinks beer.
- The German smokes Prince.
- The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
- The owner who smokes Blends lives next to the one who drinks water.
