Samantha Armytage has opened up about the real truth behind her decision to leave Sunrise earlier this year.

The 44-year-old gave no preparation to fans when she announced live on-air that she was leaving the popular Channel 7 breakfast show.

Reports at the time alleged that Armytage left the long-running programs after almost eight years of hosting alongside David Koch, to settle with her husband Richard Lavender.

The couple had married in an intimate and private ceremony in the Southern Highlands, on New Year’s Eve.

However, in her podcast with Stellar, Something To Talk About with Samantha Armytage, she revealed to her episode guest Kyle Sandilands that she’d had enough of being “belted to death” by the media.

“There were many, many reasons,” Armytage said.

“But one of the reasons was that I thought the fun wasn’t there anymore because anything I said – and I was the lightning rod for the show at that point – anything I said was analysed and I was getting beaten to death by the bloody Daily Mail.

“You just think, ‘Is life worth this?”’ she went on to say.

Armytage then went on to ask radio star Sandilands if the criticism from his role as the shock jock on Kylie and Jackie O got to him.

“Yeah, it does,” Sandilands admitted.

“I’m aware of it out there and I used to read it all the time.”

Armytage left Sunrise earlier in March of this year, telling longtime fans and her fellow co-hosts: “The time has come for the sun to set on my time at Sunrise.

“I have always been very brave and fearless in my life and my career and this decision is no different.”
