Free expert tips on getting the body you want at any age
- Health & Wellbeing
Have you bought into the popular myth that once you reach a certain age and everything starts heading south it’s too late to re-shape your body?
If the answer is yes, then this article is for you. Based on our exclusive interview with personal training expert, Lesley Maxwell, you will gain some fitness insights that may surprise you and perhaps even motivate you to transform your body.
Lesley provides free advice specifically aimed at the over 50s to help prove you can achieve the body you want - no matter what age you are.
Q. Lesley, tell us a bit about your journey in health & Fitness?
I’ve always loved feeling healthy and fit. I was raised in the country with healthy food and cooking. I just didn’t want to let that feeling go - the healthier and stronger you are, the more you get out of life.
Q. You consider yourself ageless – what does that mean?
Feeling ageless means not letting your body feel older. It means developing lean body tissue through activities like lifting weights and jogging. Being ageless means feeling strong and healthy and enabling you to live your best life. It’s a sort of freedom.
Q. Do you have any advice for people who are new to training and wondering how to get started?
I know your body can change and respond at any age, as soon as you start doing something positive at any stage your body responds. There’s always time to make these changes.
Q. What are the benefits of having a personal trainer and what should people look for in a personal trainer?
A personal trainer is a good way to go, but people shouldn’t be scared of doing some training on their own. However I would advise people to definitely seek some help from someone who can advise and help take them through some exercises.
Q. What motivates you?
It’s a really nice feeling that you’ve been able to help someone change their body shape and get healthier and have a new lease on life.
"I had this lady who had arthritis… by changing her diet and muscle mass, she lost 14 kilos, got rid of the arthritis and took a cruise with her husband and wore a bikini for first time!"
Q. Any final tips?
It’s not about being thin, it’s about having nice lean muscle and shape and treating your body with the respect it deserves. It’s great to know you can do that at any time.
Get out there and get healthy!
