A suspected thief got more than he bargained for when he allegedly tried to steal a grandmother’s handbag on the Gold Coast.
Incredible security video shows the gutsy grandmother kicking off her shoes, chasing and then tackling a man who had allegedly stolen her bag from a table at the Pimpana Tavern.
What followed after the theft was unexpected, as the elderly woman was seen putting the robber into a headlock before proudly walking away with her bag.
Speaking to Sunrise, the heroic nan said she was celebrating her birthday during the time of the incident and refused to let the alleged thief throw water on her plans.
She added that she had “no idea what she was thinking” when she leapt into action and was left with cracked ribs, cuts and bruises following the altercation.
Queensland Police have since tracked down the 42-year-old alleged thief and charged him.
He will front court this week.
