The Newton family has released a new photo of Australian entertainment legend Bert, who remains in hospital months after having surgery to remove his leg.
He had spent six weeks in hospital after a toe infection around Christmas became a serious medical issue.
On Sunday, Newton’s wife Patti shared a photo update on Instagram. This photo shows Bert enjoying a visit from his five grandchildren.
“This is what happiness is,” The photo was captioned.
In July, Patti revealed Bert had also suffered “a couple of complications” following the surgery but was “doing well with a little rehab and lots of laughs and love”.
Speaking to media outside of the Epworth Hospital following the initial operation, Patti shared “He got through the operation. It was huge and a very big day for everybody.”
“He had a choice, and his choice was to live. He’s in really good spirits, he’s got a big journey ahead of him, as we all have.”
The couple will have to remodel their house to put a bathroom on the ground floor, so Bert is able to recover at home.
