Navigating Australia's aged care system
- WYZA Life
Aged Care Who Cares? is the essential guide for anyone attempting to navigate and understand Australia’s aged care system. In response to the Federal Government reforms, the book relaunches to include a revised summary of aged care regulations.
Co-author and principal of financial advice network Aged Care Gurus, Rachel Lane, says she “hopes the book will help people gain a better understanding of the choices they have when it comes to care arrangements - whether it be residential aged care, home care or retirement living”.
Ms Lane says, “Sometimes the conversation around aged care gets shut down because people assume they don’t have choices. It’s important to understand that talking about aged care doesn’t mean moving to a nursing home.”
The new means testing arrangements affect people receiving care in the home, whether that’s their own home, a granny flat or a retirement community as well as people living in an aged care facility. Wherever you choose to live and receive care, understanding the total cost is critical as it needs to be affordable not just now but in the longer term.
The book is divided into easy-to-read sections covering care in the home, retirement villages, aged care facilities and financial strategies for planning. Also, included is a section covering the free resources and information sites individuals can access to help with their choices.
The revised edition of the book also reflects the growing trend of receiving care in retirement villages as well as the recent aged care reforms.
Whatever the financial status, state of health or future hopes you may have, Aged Care Who Cares? is filled with important advice to help you make the best choices for yourself, your parent or a relative.
As Mrs Lane adds, “Where you live has the greatest bearing on your happiness.”
The book can be purchased online at agedcarewhocares.com.au or in bookstores.
