Local seniors embrace new community
- WYZA Life
Greengate’s vibrant new community is beginning to feel like home for many of its residents, as the village had it's official opening and blessing on Friday 27th February 2015.
“We are delighted the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter
Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Her Excellency Lady Cosgrove officially open St Brigid’s Green,”
said Greengate Director Andrew Sweeney. He further commented that, “in addition, as the
developer and operator of St Brigid’s Green we are privileged that Archbishop Anthony Fisher
OP conducted a blessing of our community.”
Located on the site of the former Brigidine School at Maroubra Junction the village is close to shops, services and transport. With 89 one, two and three bedroom apartments specifically designed for independent living and a 66 suite boutique aged care home, St Brigid’s Green has something for everyone. Andrew added that, “As people age, we believe that it is important they stay within the community they already know and love, close to family and friends”.
Many of the residents are reconnecting from when their children were at the school together. The aged care is styled on a homely boutique hotel where residents receive the heart felt care that you would expect from family. “We have a great care team at St Brigid’s Green who are really enjoying getting to know all the residents and their families”, Andrew said. There is plenty of menu choice with home-style meals prepared daily by the village’s chef.
The lifestyle program is about the resident’s social, cultural and spiritual wellbeing. Current residents are settling in and getting to know each other. An active resident committee has formed Chaired by Garry O’Meally. Garry and his wife Catherine were one of the first to register their interest to move into St Brigid’s Green as far back as 2011.
Our residents know that if they need to they can access care and support in their apartments whilst continuing to live independently. They also have the peace of mind that if more 24 hour care is ever needed St Brigid’s Green’s co located aged care home can provide this without moving from the community that they know. “As well as staying connected to the local neighborhood, the Village Green at the centre of St Brigid’s Green provides a focal point for the community, where residents can relax and enjoy the company of friends and family”, added Andrew.
Greengate conceived, designed and operates the contemporary village. The attractive design integrates a variety of accommodation and care options, from independent living apartments to 24-hour care in the onsite aged care home.
Johanna Keating, Sales and Marketing manager commented that “We still have a variety of apartments and aged care places available to suit many individual’s preferences. To attend a function or visit one of our Villages please call our sales team to make an appointment.”
