7. Visit Rottnest Island
Less than 20 km off the coast of Fremantle “Rotto” is Perth’s island escape. No cars ensures that everyone is at bicycle speed so the former prison island is both relaxed and safe. Take a boat tour around the island or snorkel the many coves and bays. But make sure you allow time to get to know the island’s most famous residents – the unbearably cute population of quokkas. These friendly, fearless little marsupials gave the island its name when Dutch explorers unforgivable thought they were rats.
