4. Parthenon, Athens
The Acropolis was built as a complete complex after the Persian wars in the 5th century. Its ultimate building is the Parthenon that is one of the most sublime buildings ever erected. One can only imagine its complete perfection before it was shelled and the British took the parts of it (now collectively known as the Elgin Marbles) to the British Museum. Even now, you can see the consummate skill in design. The columns even bulge and lean slightly inward to compensate for the natural optical distortion.
