Herb and Cheese scones

Afternoon tea time just got a bit more interesting with a batch of these savoury scones with tasty cheese and herbs. Whip them up in no time and serve with good quality butter while still warm.

Recipe by Sandy Guy.

1 cup wholemeal self-raising flour
1 cup white self-raising flour
(*or use two cups white self-raising flour)
1 egg
¾ cup milk
1 teaspoon sugar
1 oz butter
½ teaspoon each fresh basil, oregano, thyme and parsley (or 1 ½ teaspoons dried mixed herbs)
1 cup grated tasty cheese

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees C.
  2. Sift flours into bowl. Add herbs and cheese. Make a well in centre of flour mixture. Melt butter and add to milk. Beat egg with sugar. Add egg mixture to flour, then milk mixture.
  3. Blend carefully, trying not to work the mixture too much. Cut out with scone cutter and place on greased tray. Bake for approximately 15 minutes. Great with Camembert cheese and/or pate.
