Herb and Cheese scones
Afternoon tea time just got a bit more interesting with a batch of these savoury scones with tasty cheese and herbs. Whip them up in no time and serve with good quality butter while still warm.
1 cup wholemeal self-raising flour
1 cup white self-raising flour
(*or use two cups white self-raising flour)
¾ cup milk
1 teaspoon sugar
1 oz butter
½ teaspoon each fresh basil, oregano, thyme and parsley (or 1 ½ teaspoons dried mixed herbs)
1 cup grated tasty cheese
- Preheat oven to 200 degrees C.
- Sift flours into bowl. Add herbs and cheese. Make a well in centre of flour mixture. Melt butter and add to milk. Beat egg with sugar. Add egg mixture to flour, then milk mixture.
- Blend carefully, trying not to work the mixture too much. Cut out with scone cutter and place on greased tray. Bake for approximately 15 minutes. Great with Camembert cheese and/or pate.
