With big hair and even bigger attitude, a musical production of Hairspray will be touring Australia in 2016.

A big fat arena spectacular

Featuring over 900 performers, this will be the largest arena production of Hairspray anywhere in the world.

The Hairspray musical production will star theatre legend Simon Burke as Edna Turnblad, singer and actress Christine Anu as Motormouth Maybelle, mesmerising dance man Wayne Scott Kermond as Wilbur Turnblad, House Husbands’ Tim Campbell as Corny Collins, Amanda Muggleton as Velma Von Tussle, Barry Conrad as Seaweed, Dan Venz as Link Larkin and Lauren McKenna as Tracy Turnblad alongside a core cast of 30 professional performers and a large amateur ensemble of over 900 young performers ranging from ages 9-21 years of age.

Hairspray will be touring Brisbane in April 2016, Newcastle in July 2016 and Adelaide in October 2016.

With explosive choreography and stunning sets and costumes, the musical will journey audiences back to the 60's.

Produced by Harvest Rain, Hairspray will be directed & choreographed by Callum Mansfield (Dirty Dancing, The King & I, Cats Arena Spectacular).

What's the story?

It’s 1962, and pleasantly plump Baltimore teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire – to be on television dancing on the popular Corny Collins Show.

When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star, but she must use her newfound power to vanquish the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin and integrate a television network – all without denting her 'do!

The production is based on the New Line Cinema film written by and directed by John Waters.
