Trigger Mortis by Anthony Horowitz is an exciting page-turner based on original material by Ian Fleming.

Bond is back at his best!

Horowitz has done a brilliant job. He has captured 007 in body and soul and has written a fast paced adventure which matches the Fleming originals. It’s based in the fifties following Dr No and SMERSH has emerged once again with its convoluted plans to smash and destroy the good guys from the West.

Did you know? When Ian Fleming died of heart failure on August 12, 1964, his greatest literary creation, James Bond, was still alive and well. The Man with the Golden Gun, was posthumously published in April 1965

What’s the story?

Bond has to enter their territory and to learn within days how to master a Maserati which will travel the Nurburgring Motor Racing Track in less than nine minutes and forty one seconds and in the process get rid of a very nasty guy who is set to destroy our good guy. That’s only the beginning. Deadline visits around the world and then America and the Space Race.

Bond is captured, challenged, beaten, injured and is even buried alive, but believe it or not he survives and overpowers all attempts by the evil Mr Sin to prevent Bond from saving New York from unspeakable disaster and saving the world from the tentacles of power hungry SMERSH.

'Horowitz also stays true to the Bond of Fleming's books rather than the Bond of the movies. His hero is human, self-doubting, weak, in a way that is hard for a movie star to be in the context of a decades-long franchise and Monty Norman's immortal James Bond theme' – New York Times

Miss Moneypenny is discretely present when needed and there is a glorious return by Pussy Galore who reveals her immeasurable talents in and out of the bedroom. She is however outshone by Jeopardy Lane ‘who is a girl like no other Bond has encountered’. Jeopardy is not just a rollover body. She climbs, swims, runs, shoots and kills to save ‘James’ and the world.

And she has a mind, a very sharp mind, of her own.

'As Bond-villain plots go, this is a clever one. . . There are more than enough pleasures for even the strictest Bond aficionado in Trigger Mortis. . . The book barely puts a foot wrong. . .' – Wall Street Journal

'The heart of any good thriller is the plot, and. . . Horowitz doesn’t disappoint. The action moves with high velocity…. Also stays true to the Bond of Fleming’s books.' — New York Times Book Review

Ian’s final verdict

Horowitz has told the story in wonderfully fluent and imaginative language which goes inside the mind and also captures every incredible and almost unbelievable action. It’s a very good story, very well told. Enjoy!

'Written with terse precision and touches of cruel poetry, this 007 revival makes seamless use of a previously unpublished story by Fleming' – The Guardian
