On Sunday night’s episode of I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!, Grant Denyer dropped a bombshell revelation saying he fell in love with now-wife Chezzi when she was married to someone else.
While this isn’t the first time the TV host has disclosed the story, many at home were shocked after hearing it.
Discussing how the pair met, the 43-year-old told his campmates: “She worked on Sunrise. She was my producer. We didn’t like each other. We hated each other.
“She was really pushy. And I was pretty arrogant, so we didn’t like one another at all,” he added.
Grant said despite the hostility towards one another, the pair shared a special moment which ignited their explosive chemistry.
“And then one day… It was so weird. One day we just brushed hands. And I just felt a tingle from my head to my toe. Just this massive feeling.
“I was like, ‘I can’t live without this woman.’ It was just a sensory overload that I couldn’t deal with or explain. It was a level of love that just blindsided me.”
But things were slightly complicated as Chezzi was married to another man and Grant was involved with another woman.
“It was a little bit tricky. Unfortunately, we were both sort of with partners at the time. It was so confusing and there was people’s hearts involved. And she was married,” the former Family Feud host admitted.
News of the affair soon leaked into the media and affected the couple at work, with Grant confessing: “Sunrise is a family show, everyone talks about their family all the time. It made something that was already difficult very complex.
“It leaked out of our office. Intentionally, I think. And things were being written then,” he said.
As a result, Chezzi lost her job, while Grant was still able to continue as the show’s weatherman.
“Got to a point where they actually marched her out of the building. I was like, ‘Oh, this is all collapsing.’ Yeah, she sacrificed a lot,” Grant said.
But fans at home were less than impressed after hearing the couple’s love story.
Former Australia’s Next Top Model finalist Simone Holtznagel wrote: “Interesting that it was the woman who lost her job in that situation… just… saying.”
Another wrote: “So she gets fired and grant’s job is perfectly safe???” while someone else added: “I would not give up my career for a man. Sorry not sorry.”
Someone else wrote: “Would never get involved with someone who had a partner, just my choice but I couldn’t.”
One more added: “I don’t think that their spouses would’ve seen Grant and her story as romantic.”
Another fan wrote: “I don’t think I can look at Grant Denyer the same again after that conversation.”
However, some people thought the story sounded like fodder for a romantic comedy.
A viewer Tweeted: “Grant and Chezzi’s love story deserves its own show or something. I wasn’t expecting that!”
“It’s also nice to hear a guy talk about his experiences falling in love, even though the circumstances weren’t favourable and Chezzi got the boot.”
Chezzi and Grant ended up marrying in 2010.
