If you’ve got a bottle of methylated spirits knocking about the house, you might be surprised to learn that its uses are actually wide and varied. As it is made from mostly natural ingredients it can be much more environmentally friendly than standard cleaning products.
1. Glass
Make your own window and glass cleaner by mixing half methylated spirits and half water. It can remove build-up that everyday cleaners can’t.
2. Paint brushes
It’s hard to remove paint from your brushes with just warm soapy water. Instead, just place the brushes in methylated spirits for a few hours and then rinse.
3. Stains
Oil based stains such as lipstick can be a pain to remove from clothing. By simply dabbing with methylated spirits and then placing in a cold wash, you’ll be well on your way to getting rid of them. You can also use the same method for pen marks, texta and even grass stains on clothes.
4. Marking pens
If you’ve accidentally used permanent marker on your white board, you can easily remove it with methylated spirits on a cloth.
5. Stickers
Get rid of stickers from mirrors and glass by simply rubbing on some methylated spirits.
6. Toys
Give plastic toys a once over with methylated spirits to bring them back to life. It will even work on metal parts of toys such as guitar strings or xylophones.
