Carrie Bickmore has shared a touching tribute to her hard-working mum to mark the first days of her retirement.

The former host of The Project shared two sweet snaps of her mother Jennie Bickmore-Brand, who has now retired after working as a lecturer at Perth’s Curtin University. Dr Bickmore-Brand spent her career in education, getting her PhD in 1997.

“My amazing mama has just retired (I think she’ll be back) after 50 years contribution to education,” Bickmore, 42, wrote in the post.

“Mum you are a trailblazer, an inspiration, a shining star. You did it all while raising kids, living and loving hard and all with a soft touch and huge smile. Enjoy the next chapter … whatever it may hold.”

The post was flooded with well wishes, with Rove McManus writing, “Brava Jennie 👏👏👏,” while others shared their admiration for Dr Bickmore-Brand’s career.

One person wrote, “50yrs contribution to anything is incredible. 50yrs contribution to education is absolutely inspirational. So many lives changed for the better. Thank you.”

A former student wrote, “She was my lecturer 34 years ago! I’ve been teaching 34 years now! Congratulations ❤️”.
