Beloved tennis superstar Rafael Nadal has become a father for the first time.

Wife Mery Perello has given birth to a baby boy. Spanish media said Perello, known as “Xisco” gave birth in a clinic on the island of Mallorca where the family currently reside.

Nadal and Perello tied the knot in 2019 after being together for many years, with Nadal hinting time and time again about becoming a father. He never confirmed an expected arrival date.

Nadal’s PR firm said they will not comment on his personal affairs, when asked by The Associated Press.

Novak Djokovic was quoted as congratulating Nadal following a match in Kazakhstan.

“Congrats! I didn’t know. Really?” the Serbian said.

“It’s a beautiful news. I wish his wife and baby a lot of health and happiness.

“As a father, I’m not gonna give any advice to him. He has a big family. I’m sure he will experience himself.”

Nadal had broken the silence regarding his personal life, when he addressed rumours about the impending arrival date at Wimbledon.

“If everything goes well, I’m going to be a father,” Nadal said in Mallorca.

“I’m not used to talking about my private life. We live more peacefully with a lower profile. I don’t expect that my life will change much with it.”
