But before punters watched the horses race, they showed off their outfits and some of them were a little worse for wear while others wowed.

This year’s Melbourne Cup Carnival was the first time since the pandemic halted major events around the world.
Around 90,000 spectators attended the event with those unable to join in tuned in to the race.

The 2022 Melbourne Cup was won by Gold Trip, ridden by Mark Zahra, with Emissary in second place.
High Emocean hit the finish line at third place with fan favourite Deauville Legend finishing in fourth.
