It’s easy to spend a king’s ransom on travel gadgets nowadays but, as is often the case, sometimes the simplest of items can do the same job just as effectively.

Seasoned travellers speaking on the forum Quorahave touted the humble doorstop as the most effective way of deterring would-be thieves and criminals.

This simple rubber wedge can be used in virtually every hotel room and is an effective way of ensuring unwanted intruders are unable to break and enter.

Frequent traveller David Klain says, “When staying in a hotel, you can put that door stop under the door preventing someone from breaking in, (because) the chain on the door will stop no one.

“In the case of a terrorist attack or lone gunman incident, typically they will go through all rooms.

“But, if they can’t get the door open (they will) move on to other rooms before working their way back to the doors that wouldn’t open.

“This buys you time for you to get away and police to respond.”

Could you imagine bringing a doorstop on holidays?
